Statistics Lithuania reports that, based on non-final data, in 2011 gross domestic product (GDP) increased in all counties. The contribution of the regions to the country’s GDP was very different. 

The largest proportion of GDP – 38.1 per cent – was generated in Vilnius county; in Kaunas county – 19.6, in Klaipėda county – 12.1 per cent of the country’s GDP was generated. The contributions of Alytus, Marijampolė, Tauragė, Telšiai and Utena counties to the country’s GDP did not exceed 5 per cent.

Just as in the previous years, in terms of GDP per capita, compared to the national average, Vilnius (142.6 per cent) and KlaipÄ—da (108.9 per cent) counties remained in the lead. Per-capita GDP generated in Kaunas county was below the national average (98 per cent).

The population for 2011 has been recalculated based on the results of the 2011 Population and Housing Census of the Republic of Lithuania. According to the revised data, per-capita GDP grew in all counties; however, the gap between Vilnius county and other regions did not narrow. Per-capita GDP in Vilnius county was twice as high as that in Alytus, MarijampolÄ— and TauragÄ— counties.
